Welcome

Bass Science's debut EP Transmissions From Planet Dub fuses dubstep, IDM, glitch hop and dub into a fresh new sound that is simultaneously super filthy and extremely clean. Italian-born, Tokyo-based dub master MattB (RaNDom) and Chicago-born, LA-based audiovisual luminary Steve Nalepa conduct their sonic experiments on different continents, mutating files and sending them back and forth across the web. The resulting soundclash melds serious low end, deep pocket rhythms, crunchy distortion, glitchy mouth percussion, blips, bleeps and a heavy dose of dub delay. Call it glitchstep, call it dubhop…whatever you call their Frankenstein baby, it has escaped from the lab and is about to wreak havoc on dancefloors everywhere.

The pair of dub scientists developed a virtual friendship out of mutual respect, remixing each other and releasing on compilations together yet communicating solely over email and Myspace messages for two years. Their first real-time communication on IM led to a show together in London during Nalepa's recent European tour. MattB came to LA soon afterwards for a handful of west coast shows, and the two holed up in Nalepa's dub shack calculating a new sonic formula. MattB took one look at Nalepa's perpetually messy desk and decided to help him pull it together, properly rewiring his entire arsenal of gear into a fully functioning dub studio. A long afternoon of experimentation ensued, the results mined and structured over the following months into the vicious jams on their debut EP.

They share a history of performing and collaborating with sonic visionaries, Nalepa getting his start producing with Bill Laswell while MattB cut his audio engineering teeth with Praga Kahn and Alec Empire. MattB's electro-dub project RaNDom has performed live at London's Alexandra Palace, Tokyo's Womb and The Glade Festival to name a few while Nalepa has rocked Flavorpill's Friday's Off the 405 series at the Getty Museum, The Do Lab Stage at Coachella 2007 and shared a bill with Amon Tobin and DJ Spooky at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Over the next few months, Bass Science tracks drop on various compilations and in January, Nalepa heads to MattB's Tokyo studio to continue crafting their upcoming full length. Individually, these two standout producers have flourishing solo careers, earning reputations for their wicked remixes and tight productions. Together as Bass Science, they are a force to be reckoned with.
